Rede Social by OPAVIVARÁ!

For the past 10 years I have produced a programme of contemporary art for WOMAD Charlton Park, the UK's biggest world music festival. WOMAD World of Art enables festival-goers to experience and engage with the work of international artists.

In 2018 we invited Brazilian art collective OPAVIVARÁ! to bring a project to WOMAD. Based in Rio de Janeiro, OPAVIVARÁ! create interventions and situations which redefine public and private spaces, inviting audiences to join in public moments to activate and increase the power of life. Since 2005 they have presented work in New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Lisbon, Berlin and Vienna. Most recently they had their first UK solo exhibition at Tate Liverpool.

For World of Art 2018 OPAVIVARÁ! presented Rede Social, a space for contemplation, experimentation and coexistence. Rede Social is a multi-part hammock, a tangible ‘social network’ that invites the cooperation and negotiation of its participants as people are thrown together as part of a temporary collective.
