Casa Anacaona by Sol Calero

In 2017 WOMAD World of Art worked in partnership with Folkestone Triennial to commission artist Sol Calero. Casa Anacaona was a site-specific tropical pavilion with bespoke furniture.  During the day the artist hosted a series of painting workshops where festival-goers could create decorative elements for the pavilion. In the evenings it became a space for social interaction where people could sit, talk, eat, drink, and enjoy being part of the installation’s transformation. Following the WOMAD festival Casa Anacaona was installed on the beach as part of the Folkestone Triennial.

Part painting, part sculpture, part social space, Casa Anacaona placed contemporary art within a music context at WOMAD, and situated music and dance within contemporary art at Folkestone Triennial.
