Luna is the first public art commission for St Martin’s on the Isles of Scilly. Artist Luke Jerram was commissioned by COSMOS to create a new artwork for their community observatory and the project was launched in June 2023. Funded by Arts Council England and supported by Culture on Scilly, Luna is a 1m diameter sculpture designed using detailed NASA imagery and topographical data of the moon’s surface. The mountains, valleys and craters are created in extraordinary detail allow people to explore and touch the moon close-up, including the usually unseen dark side (far side) of the moon.
